  47.  Deputy Charlie McConalogue         asked the Minister for Education and Skills         when he expects to begin the review of the recommendations in the Hunt report. [9883/11]

Minister for Education and Skills (Deputy Ruairí Quinn):       As I have indicated to the House previously, the process to develop the proposals for a new higher education strategy under the chairmanship of Colin Hunt was a lengthy one and provided for a comprehensive examination of the challenges facing the sector with a wide range of inputs from different stakeholders as well as national and international expertise. While I would not necessarily be bound by the specifics of every recommendation in the report, and in particular the specific issue of future financing will be the subject of further consideration as set out in the Programme for Government, I believe that, taken in the round, the strategy represents the broad basis on which higher education policy should be developed over the coming decades. The overall implementation effort will require strong partnership and involvement across the system in delivering on the various detailed actions required. Having considered overall implementation priorities, it is my intention to make a comprehensive statement over the coming weeks in relation to my agenda for delivery on priority strategy actions and the overall development of our higher education system.
